The fact that people in the Unite States of America do not believe that we all deserve high class affordable health care is one of the few times that I question whether or not America has the right idea as a nation anymore. We are basically the only one of the “rich nations” left in the world that does not guarantee health care for all of its citizens. There is something seriously wrong when the richest and supposedly most free nation in the world allows its citizens die or go bankrupt when they are in need of life saving medical attention. These are not the things I want to think about when I think about the country I call home.
Unlike many people I do not blame the health insurance industry for the majority of the problems in health care in this nation. The insurance industry has a responsibility to make a profit because they are businesses, and to make their egregious profits they have to do things like refuse to execute expensive treatments and deny people who have preexisting conditions insurance in the first place. The vast majority of the fault for this problem goes to those people who represent us in the House of Representatives, Senate, and White House (both currently and the past). These are the times when we need government to help citizens and guarantee them health care when they need it. Something like life saving health care is not something that should decided by how much money you have. In this country I truly believe that the government owes its people these types of things. At this point no one is even trying to force people to have a public insurance program, so if you don’t trust the government to run an insurance program you can keep paying for the health insurance from the “for profit industry.” That is of course unless you discover that they will not give you coverage that you can afford.
Taxes are a truth of living in a society that functions s well as the one we live in today, and there is nothing that I can think of that is more deserving of tax dollars then health care for the people of this great nation.
On Wednesday October 7, 2009 the College Democrats of America hold a national call to action for health care reform on college campuses across the country to show that young people want to have health care for all.
